Azzurrini – Italy’s future stars – Sebastian Giovinco

I’ve read an amazing article about Giovinco by Mina Rzouki from Football Italiano. The article show how Seba can be a world class player despite his small stature and more… Really worth reading :D

La Formica Atomica – Atomic Ant in English – is the Hanna-Barbera cartoon superhero that depicts a little ant that possesses extraordinary powers. His supersonic speed and amazing strength, all packed into a diminutive ant body, makes the little hero quite the paradoxical character.

The man whose nickname is la Formica Atomica needs no introduction. Standing at only 5’4 and possessing almighty strength, it is easy to understand why Sebastian Giovinco is often compared to a tiny heroic ant. He is, by and large, a comedy sketch all by himself. When the pint-sized Bianconero runs on to the pitch, you would be forgiven in thinking that he may be the son of one of the players on the ground. His height, his nimble features, his feather weight and angelic face deceive those who are watching into thinking that this boy could not be more than a harmless 16-year-old. Rest assured, appearances are deceiving as the boy possesses deadly pace to storm past the flanks and is crafty enough to draw fouls in areas where he knows he can deliver dangerous dead balls. Angelic? You must be dreaming. The 22-year-old is much wilier than his appearance would have you believe and as for his height, the player has turned this presumed weakness into his deadliest strength… Read more

In the other news, Giovinco will not arrive at Pinzolo until 22nd July due to his nose operation and his Euro-U21 participation.

Giovinco Has Successful Surgery, Out for 3 Weeks

The ‘Atomic Ant’ will be back in action in 21 days…

Juventus playmaker Sebastian Giovinco has undergone successful nose surgery, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The former Empoli striker underwent the surgery in Turin on Wednesday morning, in order to restore normal respiratory function. Dr. Tubino, from the hospital of Chivasso, announced that the surgery was a complete success.

The 22-year-old is expected to be out of action for three weeks, at which point he will join his team-mates in pre-season training.

Giovinco recently starred at the Under-21 championships for Italy in Sweden and many fans are hoping that he gains more playing time with the Bianconeri this season, as he is viewed as an heir to captain Alessandro Del Piero at the club.

He made only 19 appearances in Serie A in 2008-09, with over half of them coming off the bench.

European Championship U21 – Euroscout: Sebastian Giovinco

Juventus playmaker Sebastian Giovinco has shown why West Ham and Arsenal have both been tracking him during the European U21 Championships.

The 22-year-old only stands at 5’5″ and weighs under 60kg, but his lack of stature didn’t stop him playing 19 times in Serie A last season, as well as making several Champions League appearances.

He was the creative fulcrum in Italy’s run to the semi-finals, and was their star performer in the 1-0 defeat to Germany at that stage.

What he lacks in height he makes up for in work rate and technical ability, taking most of Italy’s set pieces, save for those from which Mario Balotelli chooses to shoot.

Deployed in a free role between the opposition defence and midfield, Giovinco is adept at finding space and linking his fellow midfielders with the lone striker fielded by manager Pierluigi Casiraghi.

He also has enough pace to burn down the flanks, and is canny enough to know how to draw fouls in areas where he can deliver lethal dead balls.

Key moments

7′ – Bursts forward and fires a swerving shot from 25 yards that fools Manuel Neuer, the Germany goalkeeper recovering just enough to palm the shot over the bar.

15′ – Tracks back to hinder Marko Marin’s run down the wing.

32′ – Curls an accurate corner to the far post for Marco Motta that the defender heads wide.

83′ – Another inviting set-piece delivery that defender Marco Andreolli heads just wide of the far post.

As the ‘Atomic Ant’ returns from U21 duty, he is set to go under the knife to fix an ongoing respiratory problem…

As the heartbreak of a semi-final exit to Germany in the European U21 championships sets in, Sebastian Giovinco will have little time to rest as he prepares for an operation on Wednesday to fix an ongoing nasal problem.

The Juventus youngster will be taken into surgery at the Chivasso hospital to undertake the long awaited operation.

In an official statement, the Bianconeri have announced that the procedure will keep Giovinco away from any sort of physical activity for 21 days.

Despite this, he should be at the disposal of coach Ciro Ferrara by the end of July when he will begin his pre-season training.
