“Juventus Don’t Understand My True Value”

Gio thinks the club are underestimating his qualities…

Even after the departure of coach Claudio Ranieri, who never gave him much playing time, Juventus starlet Sebastian Giovinco is not feeling secure of his position at the club. There are rumours that he will be used in an exchange deal to lure Udinese midfielder Gaetano D’Agostino to Turin.

Both Giovinco and fellow youngster Claudio Marchisio may become part-owned by Udinese as a result.

“I know what my qualities are,” Giovinco told Leggo. “I know my value, but perhaps at Juve they did not understand it. I don’t ask for a starting place, just more consideration.

“It’s not easy to be part of a group where you always know that no matter what happens, you will always be behind others. That I cannot accept.”

The 22-year-old did admit that “the new system will allow me to get more playing time”, although again, new arrival Diego is certain to start as a playmaker behind the strikers in a 4-3-1-2 system.

Giovinco revels in creative role

Sebastian Giovinco set up both Italy goals against Sweden

Sebastian Giovinco set up both Italy goals against Sweden.

Sebastian Giovinco made amends for missing Italy’s best opportunity of their draw with Serbia by creating goals for Mario Balotelli and Robert Acquafresca in the 2-1 win over Sweden that lifted the Azzurrini into top spot in Group A.

Luck required
Despite the victory, however, the diminutive forward insisted Italy did not perform any better in Helsingborg on Friday than in their opening-day stalemate. “We are mostly happy but, honestly, I think we played better against Serbia. But the three points today were vital regardless of how we played,” the Juventus player told uefa.com. “We’ve always known that we are a strong team. I just think everything went our way today while it didn’t against Serbia. You also need a bit of luck to win games.”

Hole role
Italy coach Pierluigi Casiraghi started with three up front against the hosts, with Balotelli and Giovinco playing either side of central striker Acquafresca, yet after a few minutes he moved Giovinco into the hole. The Azzurrini immediately became more dangerous, with Giovinco creating a good chance for Acquafresca, then giving Balotelli a pass that the FC Internazionale Milano tyro curled in for the first goal. “I’m happy as long as I play, it’s not really important where,” Giovinco explained. “Having said that, I think that role in the hole is the one that suits me best. I think I played well, I’m happy, but the most important thing is we won.”

Second assist
After Balotelli’s 38th-minute sending-off, Giovinco was asked to help in midfield, but he showed more magic in the attacking third in the second half, dribbling past two defenders wide on the right to earn a free-kick. His subsequent cross was met by Acquafresca, whose header gave Italy a 2-0 lead. “That ball was just perfect,” the Cagliari Calcio striker told uefa.com. “I escaped the Swedish defenders and scored.

Deserved victory
“I’m extremely happy, both for my goal and for the victory. As a striker, a goal is always important and this one in particular was because it helped us win a difficult game with only ten men. The team fought hard and we deserved the points. It’s a pity about Mario’s sending-off. Sometimes he has this kind of reaction but he will grow up. However, we proved this team is not Balotelli-dependent. We had been criticised after our first game and we responded on the pitch.”

I Hope Juventus Play Attacking Football Like Barcelona Next Season

Juventus starlet Sebastian Giovinco is hoping for a change in the team’s playing style with the arrival of a new coach.

With Juventus always playing in a rigid 4-4-2 system under former coach Claudio Ranieri, it was never going to be easy for a highly creative player like Sebastian Giovinco to find much playing time.

The ‘Atomic Ant’ barely had a chance to shine last season, but with Ranieri now gone, it might be a different story for him next season.

In an interview with Tuttosport, the 22-year-old revealed his hopes for the philosophy of the new coach.

“I hope the new coach makes the team play, with a system that allows us to play the ball,” he said. “I hope we play offensive football, with many strikers, like Barcelona or Roma.”

“I hope that, aside from the system we will play in, the focus will be on keeping the ball,” Giovinco continued. “For me it’s certainly better to play in a 4-3-3 or a 4-3-1-2 system, certainly not the 4-4-2 in which they made me play as a winger.”

“Claudio Ranieri Never Liked Me”

Sebastian Giovinco has spoken about the past, present and future as he eyes more playing space at Juve…

Juventus ace Sebastian Giovinco believes the reason he never played under former coach Claudio Ranieri is because he wasn’t liked by the Roman as he pledges to stay in Turin.

The Italian under-21 international has made only a handful of appearances this season. He was outstanding when he played, but Ranieri preferred leaving him on the bench. Giovinco hopes that what a change of coach he will get his chance, and he insists he has no intention to leave his home town.

“Will I leave Juventus because I have no space? No. I have already shown that I can play in Serie A, and for Juventus,” Giovinco told Tuttosport.

“Obviously I was not liked by Ranieri if I didn’t play often. However, now I want to play my chances.”

Giovinco briefly touched on all Bianconeri topics, from Diego’s arrival, Inter’s strength, and the new coach question as he takes everything in his stride.

“Something needs to be changed tactically with Diego’s arrival as he is not used to playing out on the wing,” added ‘La Formica Atomina”.

“We have to correct something to be on the same level as Inter. New coach? I am a player, not a director.

“Now we have to focus on the game against Lazio.”

Juventus can guarantee a second place finish by beating the Roman side on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking about Lippi’s squad call-up, “If you’re not playing at the club – he said calmly – you can not go to the National Team. I have to think about Juve first then I think about Azzurri”.

“I don’t care” said Giovinco

The ‘Atomic Ant’ is adamant that the Bianconeri will get out of their current crisis and maintains he is unfazed by paper talk over his future…

Juventus welcome Lecce to the Stadio Olimpico this afternoon, hoping to end their four-game winless streak in Serie A, and diminutive striker Sebastian Giovinco was keen to reassure the frustrated fans that things would turn around soon.

The 22-year-old attended the Atletico Mirafiori tournament, played in honour of Alessio Ferramosca and Riccardo Neri, the Juve Primavera players who tragically died at the Vinovo training complex in December 2006.

“The supporters want us to show our character and will do just that,” Giovinco is quoted as saying in Tuttosport.

After a resounding 4-1 win away to Roma on March 21, Juve have picked up just three points in April and have slipped into third place in the Serie A standings.

The directors are now reportedly planning a high-profile summer transfer campaign and the Turin giants have been linked with the likes of David Silva, Franck Ribery, Diego and Antonio Cassano, with some sources suggesting that Giovinco could be used as bait to land the latter.

“This is what I read in the papers, but I don’t care right now,” insisted ‘Seba’. “I just want to finish the season on a high.”
